Author & Title: Pino Parini, The relationship between perception and language in art education (Pino Parini Copyright 2003).

Abstract:

This is the English translation of the speech given at the MART of Rovereto in October 2003. It focuses on the relationship between perception, mainly the visual one, and language in art education, and it has the aim to show, contrary to what common sense would seem to suggest, that perception requires the active participation of the observer. Some examples and exercises are presented that show how the shape of things is not so much an intrinsic characteristic of theirs, but results from the activity performed by the observer. The implications these observations have for aesthetic experience are taken into account.
